Phenylobacterium zucineum HLK1

Names Phenylobacterium zucineum HLK1
Accession numbers NC_011143, NC_011144
Background The genus Phenylobacterium comprises 5 species, the first 4 of which were isolated from water or soil. Strain HLK1 was isolated from the human erythroleukemia cell line K562. It is a Gram-negative rod, motile with a polar flagellum that is strictly aerobic and nonfermentative. Its grows optimally at 37 degrees C between pH 6.5 and 7.5. It is a facultative intracellular organism and may have pathogenic relevance with humans and mammals, as it can infect at least HeLa cells. Unlike known intracellular pathogens, P. zucineum maintains a stable association with its host cell without apparently affecting the growth and morphology of the latter (modified from PubMed 16908113 and 18700039).
