Background |
Picrophilus torridus is an euryarchaeon which was first isolated from a dry solfataric field in northern Japan. It is able to grow around pH 0 (and even at negative pH values) and up to 65 Celsius degrees. It has a low intracellular pH of 4.6 whereas other thermoacidophilic organisms maintain internal pH values close to neutral. (HAMAP: PICTO) |
