Marinithermus hydrothermalis DSM 14884

Names Marinithermus hydrothermalis DSM 14884
Accession numbers NC_015387
Background Marinithermus hydrothermalis (strain DSM 14884 / JCM 11576 / T1) is a strictly aerobic, heterotrophic, thermophilic, marine, Gram-negative bacterium isolated from a deep-sea hydrothermal vent chimney sample collected from the Suiyo Seamount in the Izu-Bonin Arc, Japan, at a depth of 1385 m. The cells are rod-shaped, occurring in pairs or filamentous. Growth is observed between 50.0 and 72.5 degrees Celsius with an optimum at 67.5 degrees Celsius and at pH 6.25-7.75, with an optimum at pH 7.00. M.hydrothermalis absolutely requires NaCl, at a concentration between 0.5-4.5%, with an optimum at 3.0 %. It is able of growing solely on complex organic substrates such as yeast extract, tryptone and Casamino acids, utilizing glutamate, proline, serine, cellobiose, trehalose, sucrose, acetate and pyruvate as complementary substrates.
