Accession numbers NC_014410
Background Thermoanaerobacterium thermosaccharolyticum (strain ATCC 7956 / DSM 571 / NCIB 9385 / NCA 3814) is an anaerobic, thermophilic Gram-positive bacterium. T. thermosaccharolyticum employs a variety of enzymes for the efficient degradation of starch, amylose and pullulan and has been shown to associate with C. thermocellum in high temperature, cellulose-degrading environments. Such co-cultures of cellulose-degrading and xylose-utilizing bacteria have been proposed as an efficient means of converting cellulosic compounds to ethanol and other byproducts.
