Brachyspira murdochii DSM 12563

Brachyspira_murdochii
Names Brachyspira murdochii DSM 12563
Accession numbers NC_014150
Background Brachyspira murdochii strain 56-150 was isolated from a healthy pig intestines in Northern Quebec, Canada 1992. It is the type strain for this species. Cells are 5-8 by 0.35 um in size and possess numerous flagella. It grows best at 39 to 42 degrees Celsius as would be expected given its habitat. It is anaerobic, but is aerotolerant. It is able to grow on a number of substrates including glucose, fructose, sucrose, pyruvate and lactose but not on galactose, D-fucose, ribose or xylose for example. Members of this genus are poorly represented in habitats outside of animal intestines, at least as of March 2010 (adapted from PMID 21304710). (EBI Integr8)
